27th Annual A Most Excellent Race

For the first race coming off of the half, both of us were feeling a bit… nervous about this race in the coming weeks. Not only was it a 10K, but the heat had been excruciating, and our training was perhaps a little lackluster. Shaker Lakes Hike and Run 10K

Somehow my immune system has been wracked by viruses twice now this summer and this time it happened to settle in on the Thursday before race weekend. I was hoping to continue fighting this sickness off, but it just didn’t work. By Saturday, I was weak and wondering how I could possibly pull off a 10K PLUS some extra mileage to get my training distance in (I’ve officially started training for a November half marathon). Needless to say, I woke up on Sunday feeling under the weather and in a cold medicine fog. Ugh. But I knew that once I got outside, the race day adrenaline would kick in. 25th Annual A Most Excellent Race

We really enjoy this Most Excellent Race (this was K’s third year and R’s second)–the benefit of the fundraising and the overall vibe of the event is one of the best we’ve encountered. Everyone is positive and the fact that there is a 10K option is super! Not to mention the course, which is flat, fairly shaded, and shows off some of Cleveland Heights’ scenery, is a nice change from the city scape and hills we so often see.
