When it comes to running, lifting, or any other kind of athletic pursuit, I actually love following instructions. Maybe it’s because this world (still) feels a little outside my domain, outside my comfort zone. It helps to have some structure given to me by an expert, or someone who’s been doing this longer.
For the past week, I’ve been giving myself up not to an expert, but an algorithm. I splurged on Runkeeper Go this past Christmas (on sale), which gives me access to a “customized training plan”. Starting slowly, the program tracks how you do on their prescribed runs, and adjusts the future ones accordingly. I’m interested in seeing how well it can adapt to my training needs.
I can imagine some people (cough cough, K) having trouble giving up their training schedule to an app, but I’m all about it, so I thought I’d give it a try.
