In our experience, runners don’t generally like summer and it takes a little more work to keep up with a healthy schedule. The temperatures are difficult to run in, not to mention high humidity levels making it feel like you’re swimming instead of running. But, the season is upon us and that means there are some great races worth braving the heat for. Thanks to Hermes and Peace Racing for organizing such spectacular events and keeping us running!

Remember all of those cross country miles you ran in high school? (We don’t. We focused on our woodwinds.) Anyways, if you miss the sound of coaches yelling at you (why?) and mud splashed up the backs of your legs (OK, we get it), this race series is perfect for you! And if you’re like us – lacking cross country experience, but still curious – it might still be perfect for you! Our friends at Peace Racing have organized four races on Wednesday nights throughout the summer in varying locations, including one of our favorites: Edgewater Park!

This run is basically a giant party. No, really. The Winking Lizard provides a great event, set up as the perfect opportunity for runners to enjoy a beautiful downtown run and some brews afterwards. You have a choice between a 4 mile run, 2 mile run, or a team event if you’d like a friend to join. This is a perfect summer event for runners (and drinkers) at any level and a great way to enjoy some time downtown (with beers).

Benefitting the Women’s Recovery Center, Run, Jane, Run is actually an entire weekend full of athletic events, including golf, biking, and running. Beginning on Friday, August, 7, the three-day event will keep any athlete busy, but what we’re interested in is the 10K! As you may know, there aren’t many 10K races out there, and what makes this one even more exciting is that it benefits a great cause.

A KRCLE favorite, this race is perfect for a runner seeking a challenge. If you haven’t been to the cemetery in Little Italy, this is a great way to get a look at the beautiful scenery and see what breathtaking views this landmark has to offer. And while the hills may seem intimidating, this is one of the most rewarding 5Ks during the summer – once you’ve crossed that finish line, the crowd cools down with live entertainment and some delicious post-race treats.

Getting anxious after running the Cleveland Half Marathon and don’t know when your next distance run will be? The River Run Half Marathon is a perfect fall goal to complement your spring race. The mostly flat course is scenic and a peaceful half marathon to round out your summer running season. Just be prepared: as we all know, September can be a bit unpredictable, so you may encounter some pleasant temperatures, or summer’s humidity can have one last hurrah.
